How we collect, use and protect your data on WorkingHoliday.Guide

Overview

Last updated: 13 July 2026.

This policy explains what data WorkingHoliday.Guide ("we", "us") collects when you visit this site, why, and what choices you have. We've tried to write it in plain English rather than legal boilerplate. This site is a free, independent resource — we don't sell products or hold accounts for visitors, but we do use cookies, may show advertising, and some outbound links earn us a commission. All of that is explained below.

Who we are

WorkingHoliday.Guide is run by Whitemark Partnership LTD, based at 24 Delph House Road, Sheffield, England, S10 5NR. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, you can reach us at whitemarkpartnership@gmail.com.

What data we collect

Technical & log data

Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically records standard technical information for every visit — your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the date/time of your visit. This is used for security, troubleshooting and keeping the site running, and isn't used to identify you personally.

Cookies & local storage

We use a small amount of local storage in your browser to remember your cookie consent choice, so you're not asked again on every visit. See Cookies we use below for the full breakdown.

Information you provide directly

This site doesn't have a contact form or user accounts — our Contact page simply links to a mailto address. If you email us, we'll receive whatever your email client sends: your email address, name (if included), and the content of your message. We only use this to reply to you, and we don't add you to any mailing list.

Email newsletter

We offer an optional email newsletter (for example, our free budgeting guide). If you choose to subscribe, we collect your email address and a small amount of related data through our email provider, MailerLite. This is entirely optional and only happens if you enter your email and confirm. See Email newsletter (MailerLite) below for the full detail.

Interactive tools

Our visa eligibility checkers, budget calculators, car cost calculator, super/tax calculator, packing checklists and quizzes all run entirely in your browser. The answers you enter aren't saved, sent to us, or shared with anyone — they only exist on the page while you're using the tool.

Cookies we use

When you first visit, a cookie banner lets you choose which of the following categories you're happy for us to use. You can change your mind at any time using the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer.

Essential (always on)

Strictly necessary for the site to function — currently, this is limited to a local storage entry that remembers your cookie preference so we don't ask again on every visit. These can't be switched off, since without them the site can't remember your choice at all.

Analytics

Lets us see how visitors use the site (e.g. which pages are popular) so we can improve it. We use Google Analytics for aggregate traffic measurement and Microsoft Clarity for heatmaps and session recordings — both only load, and only set cookies, for visitors who've switched this category on. See Analytics below for details.

Advertising

Covers cookies set by advertising and affiliate partners. Display advertising (Google AdSense) is not currently active on this site. This category currently gates our Travelpayouts widgets — the Airalo eSIM search and the Kiwi.com flight search — which set tracking cookies to attribute a purchase to us. They only load once you switch this on; until then we show a plain link or prompt instead. It would also gate Google ad cookies if we enable AdSense in future. See Advertising & Google AdSense below for details.

Marketing

Covers our email newsletter sign-up, which is powered by MailerLite. Its sign-up form (and the MailerLite script that runs it, which sets its own cookies) only loads once you switch this category on — until then no newsletter form and no MailerLite request is loaded at all. See Email newsletter (MailerLite) below for details.

Advertising & Google AdSense

This site is built to work with Google AdSense, though advertising is not currently switched on. Once it is, Google and third-party vendors may use cookies (including Google's advertising cookie) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites, only after you've consented to the "Advertising" cookie category.

You can control how Google personalises ads for you, across every site that uses Google advertising, at Google's Ad Settings page, and read more about how Google uses data from sites that use its services at How Google uses information from sites that use our services.

The "Advertising" category also covers our Travelpayouts widgets, provided by the Travelpayouts affiliate network: an interactive Airalo eSIM search on our SIM card guide and a Kiwi.com flight search on our flights guide. These widgets load from Travelpayouts and set their own tracking cookies to attribute any resulting purchase to us so we earn a commission (at no extra cost to you). Because they set these cookies, they only load once you've consented to the "Advertising" category — until then we show a plain link or a prompt instead, which sets no cookies. Travelpayouts' handling of this data is governed by their Privacy Policy.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand, in aggregate, how visitors use this site — which pages are popular, roughly where visitors come from, and which devices they use. Google Analytics only loads, and only sets cookies (such as _ga and _ga_*), after you've consented to the "Analytics" cookie category; if you reject or later withdraw that consent, it doesn't load and any existing analytics cookies are removed from your browser.

We have IP anonymisation enabled, so Google Analytics doesn't store your full IP address. Google's own use of this data is governed by their Privacy Policy and Ads/Analytics data processing terms. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

We also use Microsoft Clarity, a behavioural analytics tool that captures how visitors interact with the site — through heatmaps and anonymised session recordings of clicks, scrolls and navigation — so we can see which parts of a page work well and where people get stuck. Like Google Analytics, Clarity falls under the "Analytics" cookie category: it only loads, and only sets cookies, once you've consented to that category. It sets cookies to distinguish repeat visits from new ones and to correlate a visitor's actions within and across sessions. If you reject or later withdraw Analytics consent, Clarity stops setting cookies and we clear the first-party Clarity cookies from your browser.

The cookies Clarity may set include _clck (persists the Clarity user ID and preferences, ~1 year), _clsk (ties page views into a single session, ~1 day), CLID (identifies first-time versus returning visitors, ~1 year), and Microsoft cookies such as ANONCHK, MR and SM used to store and sync a session/user identifier across Microsoft domains (minutes to a few days). Clarity is a Microsoft product; Microsoft's processing of the data it collects is governed by the Microsoft Clarity terms and privacy documentation and the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

Email newsletter (MailerLite)

Our optional email newsletter is run through MailerLite, a service provided by MailerLite Limited, Ground Floor, 71 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2, D02 P593, Ireland. MailerLite acts as our data processor for the newsletter: it stores subscriber details and sends the emails on our behalf.

What we collect when you subscribe: your email address, the IP address you subscribed from, the date and time you gave consent, and the page you signed up from (your "source page", used only so we can see which content leads people to subscribe). We don't ask for your name or any other details.

Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You give it by entering your email and confirming the sign-up; you're never added without opting in, and if you're subscribing from the German-language site you'll also receive a confirmation email you must click before you're added (double opt-in).

How long we keep it: until you unsubscribe or we delete our newsletter account. You can withdraw your consent at any time using the unsubscribe link included in every email we send — this removes you from the list and stops any further emails.

MailerLite's own handling of this data is governed by its Privacy Policy. The MailerLite sign-up form only loads after you consent to the "Marketing" cookie category in our cookie banner; until then it isn't loaded and collects nothing — see Cookies we use.

Google Tag Manager & Consent Mode

We use Google Tag Manager (GTM) to load and manage the third-party tags on this site — such as Google Analytics, and any advertising tags if we enable them — from one place, rather than hard-coding each one. GTM itself doesn't set analytics or advertising cookies; it only controls when the tags it manages are allowed to run.

Those tags are governed by Google Consent Mode v2. Before GTM loads, we signal a default state of "denied" for all consent-gated storage (analytics and advertising), so no measurement or advertising cookies are set and no such data is sent until you make a choice. When you use the cookie banner, your choice updates that signal: switching on Analytics grants analytics storage, and switching on Advertising grants advertising storage; anything you leave off — or reject — stays denied, and if you later withdraw consent the signal returns to denied. The Google Analytics and advertising tags managed this way are described in the Analytics and Advertising sections above.

How we use your data

  • To operate, secure and maintain the site.
  • To remember your cookie preferences.
  • To reply if you email us directly.
  • To understand site usage via Google Analytics (aggregate traffic) and Microsoft Clarity (heatmaps and session recordings), if you've consented to Analytics cookies.
  • To show and measure advertising, once/if AdSense is enabled.

We don't sell your personal data, and we don't use it for any purpose beyond what's listed above.

Third parties we work with

  • Cloudflare (hosting/CDN) — serves the site and may log basic technical/request data (e.g. IP address, request headers) as part of its content delivery and security services.
  • Google Tag Manager — used to manage and conditionally load the Google tags above; governed by Google Consent Mode, so none of them use storage until you consent.
  • Google (AdSense) — will serve advertising once enabled, subject to your consent.
  • Google Analytics — used to understand site usage in aggregate, subject to your consent.
  • Microsoft Clarity — used for heatmaps and session recordings to see how visitors interact with pages, subject to your consent. See Microsoft Clarity's terms.
  • MailerLite (MailerLite Limited, Dublin, Ireland) — our email newsletter provider, which stores subscriber details and sends the newsletter on our behalf, subject to your consent. See Email newsletter (MailerLite) above.
  • Affiliate networks & partners — SafetyWing, True Traveller, Heymondo, Genki, Wise, Revolut, Airalo, Kiwi.com, and affiliate tracking networks such as Commission Junction and Travelpayouts, for the purpose of attributing referrals from our links.

We don't share your data with anyone else, and we don't sell it.

Data retention

Your cookie consent choice is stored in your browser for up to 6 months, after which you'll be asked again. This site is hosted through Cloudflare, which retains basic request/security logs for a limited period under its own retention schedule — see Cloudflare's Privacy Policy for specifics. Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and are not used for any other purpose.

Your rights

If you're in the EU/EEA or UK, data protection law (GDPR/UK GDPR) gives you the right to:

  • Access the data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Delete your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Restrict or object to certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent at any time — use the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer to change your cookie choices, which stops any related processing going forward.
  • Complain to your local data protection authority if you think we've mishandled your data.

To exercise any of these rights, email whitemarkpartnership@gmail.com. Since we don't hold accounts or profiles for visitors, most requests will simply relate to emails you've sent us or cookies stored in your own browser (which you can clear at any time via your browser settings).

Children's privacy

This site is aimed at adults planning a working holiday and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

International data transfers

Third parties referenced above — including Google and our affiliate partners — may process data outside your home country, including in the United States. Where this happens, those providers are responsible for putting appropriate safeguards in place (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) under their own privacy terms.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page whenever what the site actually does changes — for example, if we switch on advertising, change analytics tools, or add new affiliate partners. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the most recent change.

Questions about your data?

Email us any time and we'll get back to you.
